Lord Jagannath is part of the holy trinity that includes his brother Lord Balabhadra and sister Devi Subhadra. The trio is celebrated for their annual journey in the Rath Yatra, symbolizing unity, equality, and brotherhood. The distinct iconography of Lord Jagannath, with his large, round eyes and smiling face, is deeply ingrained in the cultural and spiritual fabric of India.

Odisha, often referred to as the land of Lord Jagannath (the Lord of the Universe), is home to the magnificent Jagannath Temple in Puri. Constructed in the 12th century AD, this temple has become the epicenter of the Jagannath cult, attracting pilgrims from all corners of the world year-round.

The mystical allure of Lord Jagannath often overshadows the architectural brilliance of this grand temple. Erected on a raised platform, the temple itself is an architectural marvel. New additions continued to be made to its structure until around the 16th century AD. Unlike other regional temples, the carvings on the Jagannath Temple primarily depict gods and goddesses.

The entire temple complex is enclosed within two concentric walls: the Kuruma Bheda (Inner Wall) and the Meghanada Pachira (Outer Wall). The main entrance, Singhadwara, is located on the eastern front, with three other entrances along the four cardinal directions. These additional entrances are not architecturally aligned with the main entrance, suggesting they were likely created for security purposes during the tumultuous period between the 16th and 18th centuries when the temple was often under threat.
